Film - SYDNEY FILM FESTIVAL 2012
Sydney Film Festival launches into two weeks of film madness.
I'm heading out to indulge in a few of the SFF $35 dining specials, just to get into the festival mood mind you, I feel it's my duty to give it my best and experience everything on offer, within reason of course. My reasoning is I need quality sustenance for stomping all over town and delving into the movie delights dished up from film makers from all over the world plus I'll be checking the vibe at the HUB and some of the 26 free public events offered up - should be buzzing. The talks and the live Burlesque performance sound crazy-great.
Looking forward to taking in UTOPIA, a 56 min film by Australian filmmaker Bruce Petty. It's screening with Killing Anna, on 7 June at 6:00pm & said to contemplate our efforts to imagine the future using animated & live-action sequences, fiction & reality. Petty is also an influential political cartoonist & his work can be seen in various publications. He won an Oscar in 1976 for his animated short LEISURE.
UTOPIA (I really love this image)
STEP UP TO THE PLATEIf you’re a mad foodie, check out STEP UP TO THE PLATE, a fascinating film following master chef Michel Bras and his legendary three-Michelin Star hotel-restaurant, during an emotional and pivotal year, as the time has come to hand over the reins to his son, Sébastien, who has worked alongside him for 15 years and the master chef is finding it difficult to keep his nose out of the kitchen.
Screening 12 June at 6:30pm & again on 17 June at 6:00pm
Just added!!! A late addition to the Festival...
HOLY MOTORS, written and directed by French auteur Leos Carax and starriing Denis Lavant, Kylie Minogue and Eva Mendes. Here's a couple of reviews written for HOLY MOTORS following the Cannes Film Fest...
'Exhilarating, opaque, heartbreaking and completely bonkers… A deliciously preposterous piece of filmmaking that appraises life and death and everything in between, reflected in a funhouse mirror,' Hollywood Reporter
[Audacious]… unhinged, beautifully shot and frequently hilarious' … "Tech package is astounding." … "Lavant is thoroughly brilliant." Variety
Sounds weirdly and strangely fabulous. I will get in there and see what's going on. Screening on Thursday 14 June at 7pm. You can find more screening details at SFF
