Film Review: THE BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD
"A visual feast, feel good film, with ongoing 'laugh out loud' moments. I highly recommend it"
I saw this film yesterday with my Mum and one of my best friends, it was my birthday. We went to the Ettalong 'Cinema Paradiso', on the Central Coast. I particularly like the little glass booths for families with babies, a 12 week old was in there enjoying (sleeping through) his first film and we didn't hear a peep. Later we consumed a 'well plated' mushroom stir fry, ice cream and passion fruit, Lindt balls and Swisse Giandor chocolate and a gorgeous Australian Penola Estate, Coonawara 2008 Merlot... perfect. Tonight will be the second half of my celebrations, I'll tell you about it tomorrow.
Film Review: MIRROR MIRROR
"MIRROR MIRROR is a fantasy full of humour, spectacular costumes and an enchanting cast."
Film Review: MIRROR MIRROR
Excited, it's movie time... my absolute favourite thing... or maybe on par with fine dining. And I'm travelling an hour and a half to get there - it's MIRROR MIRROR with Julia Roberts, I'm a big fan. The travel is alright, it allows me time to think, write, read and plot.
I'd rather see films in the cinema than on DVD. I like the event of it - the audience reactions, the choc tops and the chat afterward. I'm just thinking I'll share with you my 3 favourite cinemas in Australia.
Film Review: THE HUNGER GAMES
"Theatrical and fun, not a dull moment, I highly recommend it" Naomi Rossdeutscher
A dusty, hot Tuesday night at the Australian Premier and a full house. Just settled after some serious seat hopping, we are trying to sit behind the shortest, quietest person, while still getting the perfect balance of sound. Stocked up with heavily salted popcorn and a glass of bubbly, I'm ready and waiting, when an entire row of kids arrive - all boys. I notice I'm not the only one concerned about their creative popcorn stunts and hyperactivity, there's some serious movie buffs here... this could go badly. But the Australian supermodel sitting in a tiny miniskirt next to me is smiling and calm, so I hold it together.
It's time, they roll the reel and we get a "hello" from a few of the young actors who couldn't make it to the premier... it's okay, no probs, I don't feel jilted, I'm here for the film.
...and off we go, no messing around now and I'm glad of it. I don't remember what hooked me and took me out of my real world and into theirs, because it happened so fast. Thankfully, the entire audience seemed to be silently riveted right to the end, especially the row of hyper-boys - nice marketing.
Film Review: THE AMERICAN
"George Clooney gets sexy with a gorgeous Italian, makes friends with a priest and struggles with his unglamorous career in this classy noir-ish thriller; just the kind of film I love."
Conflict and intrigue kicks in fast in this character-motivated thriller with George Clooney as Jack/Edward, a merciless assassin on edge and on the move, with a growing distaste for his dangerous vocation and suspicious of everything and everyone. Jack goes into hiding, makes friends with a local priest and indulges in a sexy romance with a gorgeous Italian, which ignites life-changing ideas.
Film Review: DINNER FOR SCMUCKS
One of these guys has sexual magnetism, but who's the Schmuck?
Steve Carrell, Paul Rudd, Jemaine Clement and David Walliams made me laughed so hard there were tears.
In order to win a promotion, a man is required to bring along someone special to be made fun of at his bosses dinner party, but from the moment he meets his someone special his life is turned upside down and inside out.
I went into this film with trepidation, as it looked dopey and goofy and not my taste in comedy at all, but it turned out to be a clever film about friendship, trust and love that started with a giggle and worked it's way up to 'laugh out loud' hilarious.
Film Review: INCEPTION
INCEPTION is a big budget, sci-fi thriller that demands you pay close attention for the entire 148 minutes, as this wild ride only occasionally pauses for a breather.
English born writer and director, Christopher Nolan (MEMENTO, INSOMNIA, THE DARK NIGHT) once again, plays with time, memories, reality and loss and impresses with his clever staging of his clever scenes. The surreal visual effects, where buildings appear and double over, are spectacular - reminiscent of The Matrix, Dark City (with Rufus Sewell). I'm itching to see how it was made and to hear the directors’ commentary.
The magnetic Leonardo DiCaprio, plays Cobb, a man whose job is to infiltrate his target's brain to steal secrets, while in a dream state. He struggles with loss, takes some huge risks and like many espionage films, there’s a need for a crack team. I greatly enjoyed his tender scenes with the beautiful Marion Cotillard, (LA VIE EN ROSE). They really delivered the goods.
